The Bankruptcy Procedure

Any Chicagoland bankruptcy will follow a similar overall procedure from start to finish, although there are differences we will explain to you once a direction is established. First, you’ll meet with an attorney from our offices to discuss debt relief in Chicago and surrounding suburbs. We will evaluate your circumstances and what is best for your needs. Next, we’ll begin filing paperwork for your bankruptcy that typically includes a stay to prevent creditors from trying to collect from you during the process. Once all the paperwork has been filed and everything is in order, you will be granted a discharge where the final judgment will be formally decreed and the results of your bankruptcy will be finalized with the court.

Bankruptcy and Your Record

Depending on the type of bankruptcy you file, your record will reflect the proceeding for 7 to 10 years and then drop off your credit score entirely. When you file with us, we will let you know how long it will take for the bankruptcy you file to disappear from your credit record.
